Our
Projects

Since the beginning, GBSC has worked to make facility and equipment upgrades to improve the culture and experience of our youth and their families. Made possible by hard work from our volunteers and support from our community, we are proud to share some of the efforts through the years.

FIELD 165 - Opened June 2025!

‘Field 5’ has served Glenwood since the 1980’s. Constructed by volunteers, it has hosted hundreds of games and thousands of children. However, the placement of home plate in the Southeast corner away from parking and support facilities makes the accessibility of the field difficult and it’s the lowest preferred field to use. Due to the low preference and accessibility issues, investment for upkeep has been the lowest priority despite this field having adequate
lights for games. The dugouts were worn and out of date, the base anchors were out of place, much of the fencing had disappeared and not been upgraded for spectator safety, and the announcer stand was a home for wildlife.

Given the growing demand for baseball and softball, Glenwood needs this space to have a modern facility.

In 2024, the Glenwood Baseball Softball Club began work with the City of Glenwood to ‘flip’ field 5 and completely renovate the area moving home plate to the Northwest so its closer to parking and the new concession stand and restrooms. With outfield fence distances of 260-300 ft, it will fit well as a 16U and under baseball field but will be a full dirt infield so it can be used for softball as well. The entire area has been regraded to level out the field and 6’-8’ fencing will surround the field with modern dugouts like those on City Field and Field 4. The proposed recreational trail will be tied in and provide a route for fans to utilize the old stands that will remain in center field. The current lights will remain and either be refocused or added to for better infield lighting.

‘FIELD 165’

165 was the badge number of Glenwood, IA resident and Bellevue, NE Police Officer Christopher Abbott who served Glenwood’s and Bellevue’s youth in many ways including as a
board member of the Glenwood Baseball Softball Club. Chris raised funds and volunteered to update Field 4, City Field, and Field 2. His ultimate goal was for ‘Field 5’ to be flipped and
renovated.

In November of 2023 Chris passed away of a medical emergency. His wife Amie a Glenwood School teacher, and his 2 boys Gavin and Brecken were also involved with the club from umpiring to volunteering on GBSC projects.

‘Field 165’ is dedicated to honor Officer Abbott, and to also recognize the dozens of volunteers, city officials, and staff who have served Glenwood’s Youth from the beginning days of this complex, today, and into the future.

City Field Dug Outs

Teams could barely sit in our old dugouts at city field. Today they have sturdy benches, shade, and storage for gear.
